Have you looked at your pet's teeth lately?
Dental disease in pets is more than just bad breath and losing teeth. It is caused by bacteria which establish themselves on the teeth along the gumline. As bacteria begin to thrive, the result is the formation of tartar you may see on your pet's teeth. If left untreated, these bacteria can spread to and cause infections in the kidneys, liver, and heart valves, as well as lead to tooth loss. This is known as peridontal disease, and it is the most common disease affecting dogs and cats ages 3 and older. Over 80% of all dogs and 70% of cats are diagnosed with this condition.

Cleaning your pets teeth while they are young can prevent significant tartar build up.

Waiting to clean your pets teeth until there is a problem can cause severe gingivitis, tooth loss and bad breath. These problems can contribute to other serious medical conditions that affect the kidneys, liver and heart.
For this reason, regular dental care is just as important for your pet as it is for yourself. Cats and dogs age significantly faster than we do. We would not wait 4-7 years for a dental exam and neither should your pets.
