Trim Tails Club

Our goal is to help you make the right choices when it comes to
maintaining a healthy pet, through diet and exercise.

Weight problems are common in cats and dogs, and can be successfully
managed through changes in food or a nutrition program.  Combining a
change in nutrition with increased exercise is the most effective way
of achieving a healthy weight.

Is your pet overweight?
All pets have an ideal weight for their size and breed.  Your veterinarian
can tell you what this is, and show you how to check that your pet is
maintaining a healthy weight.

If your pet is overweight, you may notice some of the following signs:

v     Ribs cannot easily be felt when running your hand along your pet’s side

v     Loss of an obvious waist

v     Collar needs loosening

v     Difficulty in walking

v     Slow movement

v     Shortness of breath

v     Bad temper

v     Sleeping more than usual

What causes weight gain?
Weight gain is the result of an increase in body fat.  This is usually caused by eating too much, especially when combined with lack of exercise.

v    Older pets are less active, have less energy, and require fewer calories.
v    Some breeds are more likely to gain weight.
v    Very occasionally weight gain is associated with a medical disorder that may require
specific treatment.

When you join the Trim Tails Club:

v    Trim Tails team members will assess your pet’s current body condition and dietary habits.

v    We can can recommend appropriate changes to your current feeding regimen.

v    We will discuss how to start an appropriate exercise program that fits your pet’s specific needs.

v    We will arrange convenient follow-ups to monitor your pet’s progress, and make further adjustments as needed.
