Dr. Kathleen Muckenhirn

Dr. Muckenhirn brings a wealth of experience and an incredible passion for veterinary medicine. Originally from Texas, she has called many places across the United States home, gathering unique experiences and adventures along the way.

She began her academic journey at the prestigious Air Force Academy in Colorado before an injury redirected her path toward veterinary medicine. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Connecticut and then fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian at Atlantic Veterinary College on beautiful Prince Edward Island, graduating with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2017.

Dr. Muckenhirn started her career in general practice in Utah before discovering her passion for the fast-paced and rewarding world of emergency and urgent care medicine. Now proudly calling Buffalo home, she enjoys working in dynamic environments and has professional interests in surgery, behavior, and critical care.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Muckenhirn shares her life with what she lovingly describes as a small zoo—including Tonks the Swiss Mountain Dog, Fig the Pionus parrot, three cats, a rabbit, snakes, geckos, and a flock of small birds. In her free time, she enjoys dog training, hiking, camping, reading, watching movies, and planning her next adventure. She has also volunteered internationally with veterinary groups to help provide spay and neuter services and veterinary care in underserved communities around the world.
